Pre-team:
The pre-team emphasis will be to introduce all aspects of
competitive swimming, including all four strokes, racing dives
and competitive turns. This program is designed for the swimmer
who is proficient in freestyle and backstroke, and is ready for
the next step of learning. The pre-team will meet three
times per week.
8 & unders:
The 8 & under group is set up to expand on what was learned in the
pre-team group. Swimmers in this group will continue to learn the
basics of competitive swimming throughout the season. Swimmers
in this group should be able to swim one length of freestyle and
backstroke, plus have some knowledge of butterfly and
breaststroke. They should be confident in the water and able to
work well with others in a group setting. The emphasis of this
group is to further develop the fundamentals of the four
competitive strokes. On average this group will offer practice
five times per week.
9-10 year olds:
The 9-10 group group is intended for swimmers who have learned the
basic aspects of competitive swimming. These swimmers will
continue to work on developing the fundamentals of the four
competitive strokes. As the group is ready, more aerobic
conditioning will be added to practices to prepare them for the
11-12 group . In this group swimmers begin to truly master
practice habits such as lane etiquette, pace clock reading, and
much more. On average this group
will offer practice five times per week.
11-12 year olds:
The 11-12 group is intended for
swimmers who have some experience in competitive swimming. The
11-12 group will focus on stroke technique, endurance training,
and race strategy. Swimmers in this group will also learn the
basics of weekly and season training cycles which they will
apply to the rest of their careers. The main emphasis for this
group is preparing the swimmers for the challenges of the 13 &
over group. This group will meet five times
per week on average.
13 & overs The 13 &
over group is our group for the swimmer who is serious
about continuing in the sport of swimming. In addition to an
intense training load and dry-land program, this group continues
to focus on all aspects of swimming, including technique,
psychology, and race strategy. The group will train 5-6 times a
week during the winter season, and the number of practices
offered may be increased during holiday breaks and the
spring/summer season. For the swimmer in this group who are
planning to attend any championship level meet, swimmers must
attend at least 75% of the practices offered.*
* The percentage of
practices required for participation in a championship meet may
be changed at the discretion of the coaching staff.
